Short description:

The study of Nautical tourism profile and its socio-economical potential in Algarve relies on the scientific knowledge need about this segment’s potential in Algarve. This study is oriented for the leisure nautical in Algarve as a social and economic segment, with a scientific and quantified supportive tool for this sector’s influencing decisions as the output. It gathers the benefits, direct and indirect costs knowledge and projection of Algarve’s nautical economy on a balanced, competitive and externally open regional development scenery.

The study fits-itself in the Algarve Development Strategy for 2007-2013 (CCDRA, 2006) on the priority "To diversify and qualify the tourism/leisure cluster", on the Economy area, Axis "To qualify, innovate and strengthen the economy". On a vaster territorial integration, one should also highlight the research adaptation to the National Strategic Plan of the Tourism (2007) - PENT defined, where nautical tourism is assumed as one of the 10 Portugal‘s priority products specially for Algarve region.

The general mission of the study aims the definition of several criteria and indexes (a matrix or evaluation model) which enables the social and economical analysis of leisure nautical in Algarve region. The analysis should not only concentrate on these areas conditioning matters at the present, but also on the study of its sustainability conditions on medium and long term.
